Note: As of June 1, 2024, Cub Scout advancement tracking has officially moved into Scoutbook Plus (aka the “Internet Advancement / advancement site”) — legacy Scoutbook now redirects advancement actions into Plus.
Also: Cub advancement from the prior program (pre-June 2024) generally can no longer be entered after December 31, 2024 (council staff may still help with special cases)
1. Log in & Pick the Right Role
- Go to advancements.scouting.org and log in using your my.scouting.org credentials.
- In the top-right dropdown (or role selector), choose your Pack / leadership position (e.g. Pack Leader, Advancement Chair) so you have the correct permissions.
⚠️ If you don’t see advancement options, check with your council or pack registrar: your functional roles (in Position Manager) might not be properly assigned. Many times, making someone the “Unit Advancement Chair” in my.scouting gives them the ability to enter/approve adventures.
2. Confirm Dens & Scouts Setup
Before entering advancement:
- Make sure that Dens exist in Scoutbook Plus and that Scouts are assigned to their dens.
- If a Scout is missing from a den or not assigned, use the roster → “Add to Den” or “Edit Den” options.
- (Optional) If dens need to advance (for example, from Tiger to Wolf), you can edit the Den Level under the den’s settings.
Once dens and Scouts are set, you can begin entering advancements.
3. Enter a Single Scout’s Advancement (Manual Mode)
- From the Roster page, click the Scout’s name.
- On the Scout’s advancement screen, you’ll see their Rank / Adventures list. Click “View More” next to the adventure/rank you want to work on.
- On the adventure page, mark the individual requirements as Completed or Approved:
- Completed = the Scout or a leader thinks the requirement is done.
- Approved = a unit leader verifies correctness (sign-off).
- Add comments or notes if needed.
